CHAPTER 01  //  THE START

The roots of OJOS Eyewear trace back to a trip to Barcelona, Spain during the summer of my senior year in college at The University of Kansas. I took this trip to visit friends and kick it “local style” on the beaches of Spain before returning to the States to complete my degree. The trip became more of a soul-searching adventure than I could have ever imagined. Inspired by the radiant culture, architecture, style, and diversity in Barcelona, I decided to put off what I saw as mundane post-grad optometry school life and I decided to pursue something that I wanted out of life and what I stand for. I decided then and there to flip the script and pursue my dream to create a brand that fused by love for design, style, and entrepreneurship. Always having a hefty arsenal of eyewear made eyewear stand out to me as an excellent medium for design and style expression. I sketched out designs and began to build the big-picture idea for OJOS with close friend and OJOS Co-Founder Phil Ozorkiewicz. 

 

CHAPTER 02  //  THE GROWTH

I met Tyler Reynolds while studying at the University of Kansas.  I was working nights, managing a business, studying the history and geography of the world, and working hard to not let school get in the way of my education (thank you, Mark Twain).  I often took time off to travel to different countries, sometimes as a tourist, sometimes as a volunteer, sometimes as an athlete (rugby), and sometimes just to hang out with cool people of different cultures.  In my travels, I have met many amazing, interesting, and insightful people who have become lifelong friends and inspiration.  I joined OJOS to build a company with operations that would have a positive impact around the world, to the people, and to the environment we share. I had been in a corporate world managing a few businesses in college where I learned that I never wanted to sacrifice quality or impact to make a buck. I always want the quality of the product and company to reflect who I am and what I stand for.

From the get-go, we wanted to shake things up. Inspired by entrepreneurs and forward-thinkers like Yvon Chouinard (Patagonia), Richard Branson (Virgin Group), and Tony Hsieh (Zappos), we have created a company with depth that extends beyond simply making great products. With Tyler's eye for design and my passion for global-minded travel, we established the OJOS brand you see today.  OJOS - Look good.  Do good.  “Global citizenship. California Design.”

 

CHAPTER 03  //  THE HERE AND NOW

Building this brand has been quite the adventure and we have a ton of amazing and talented people to thank for getting us to where we’re at today. Having both worked and paid our way through college, starting and funding a company seemed like a tall order. We were able to raise funds and make OJOS happen via support on Indiegogo. Both of our Indiegogo campaigns were successfully funded and we were able to fully introduce our brand to the world via this community. We can’t thank these supporters enough as they’ve made OJOS a reality. Our identity will forever be represented by our character as global citizens and designers collectively. As global citizens ourselves, we feel its important for us to always offer an amazing product in design + premium materials used while sacrificing excess margins ourselves. That is simply why we offer our products at only $195 - we want to make sure OJOS is accessible to people just like us and want to keep you (and your wallet) looking good during the OJOS brand mantra to “Go, Be, Do”: GO explore the globe, BE the change you want to see, DO something extraordinary.
